Bio

Gillian is a graduate-level counselor here at CNSL and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling candidate at Walden University. She works with teens and adults who come to counseling with a range of concerns, experiences, and reasons for seeking support. Clients may be dealing with something immediate, trying to understand patterns that keep showing up, making sense of difficult experiences, or recognizing that something in their life needs to change.

Trauma and post-traumatic stress are a particular focus of Gillian’s developing clinical practice, including work with first responders and others who have experienced traumatic, high-stress, or crisis-related events. This focus is informed by her own background as a first responder, along with several years of non-clinical crisis intervention experience and certified peer support within the first responder community.

These experiences have shaped the way Gillian approaches counseling. She strives to create a space where clients feel genuinely understood while also being met with honesty, curiosity, and active collaboration. Her style is engaged and down-to-earth, with room for humor when it fits. She believes therapy should be a place where clients can explore what matters to them, better understand themselves and their experiences, and consider how they want to move forward.

Gillian has also received training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a brief psychotherapy that uses eye movements, imagery, and memory rescripting techniques to change the way distressing memories and experiences are processed. ART can be used in work involving trauma and post-traumatic stress, as well as other forms of emotional distress. When appropriate, ART may be incorporated into counseling based on each client’s individual needs and goals.

Gillian sees clients virtually and in-person on Mondays at our Alpharetta office (3400 Old Milton Pkwy, Building C, Floor 3, Suite 395, Alpharetta, GA 30005).

During her internship at CNSL, she will be working under the direction and supervision of Adam Stephens, LPC. Gillian is not able to provide services billed through Medicaid, Medicaid CMOs, Medicare, or Aetna during the internship. However, she is able to accept most major commercial insurances under the supervision of Adam Stephens, if permitted by the insurance plan. She is able to accept self-pay clients at a reduced rate exclusively available during the length of her internship. The reduced counseling intern self-pay rates would not apply if you decided to use insurance, as your out-of-pocket cost would instead be determined by your specific insurance plan and mental health benefits.
